Discipline Philosophy

At the Islamic Academy of South Jersey, discipline is viewed as an opportunity for learning and growth. Our approach emphasizes accountability, reflection, and personal responsibility, while maintaining a respectful and supportive school environment.

Students are guided to understand the impact of their actions, learn from mistakes, and make positive choices. Discipline practices are designed to support character development and reinforce Islamic values, rather than rely on punishment alone.

Specific disciplinary policies and procedures are outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Homework Expectations

Homework at IASJ is intended to reinforce classroom learning, build responsibility, and develop strong study habits. Expectations are age-appropriate and designed to support learning while maintaining balance.

  • Pre-School: Homework is minimal or not assigned; focus is on routines, readiness, and family engagement.
  • Elementary School: Homework reinforces skills taught in class and supports independent practice.
  • Middle School: Homework increases in responsibility and independence, preparing students for future academic demands.

Families are encouraged to support healthy homework routines at home. Detailed expectations are outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Attendance Expectations

Regular attendance is essential to student learning and academic success. Students are expected to arrive on time and attend school consistently.

Families play an important role in supporting attendance by scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible and communicating with the school regarding absences.

Attendance policies and procedures, including excused and unexcused absences, are detailed in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Communication Expectations

Clear and respectful communication between families and the school is essential to supporting student success. IASJ is committed to timely, transparent communication and encourages parents to reach out with questions or concerns.

Families are expected to communicate respectfully with teachers and staff and follow established communication channels.

Detailed communication guidelines are outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Our Commitment to Student Safety

At the Islamic Academy of South Jersey, student safety is a top priority. We are committed to providing a secure, well-supervised environment where students feel protected, supported, and respected.

Our approach to safety emphasizes preparation, supervision, and partnership with families. While specific procedures are outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook, IASJ maintains clear protocols and staff training to ensure the well-being of all students throughout the school day.

For detailed safety and emergency procedures, families are encouraged to review the Parent/Student Handbook.

Health & Wellness

IASJ promotes a healthy school environment that supports both physical and emotional well-being. Families play an important role in helping maintain this environment by monitoring student health and keeping children home when they are ill.

Health-related policies, including illness guidelines and medication administration, are outlined in detail in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Mental & Emotional Well-Being

IASJ recognizes that students’ emotional and mental well-being is essential to their academic and personal success. Our school culture emphasizes care, compassion, and respect, and staff work closely with students to support their social and emotional development.

When concerns arise, families are encouraged to partner with the school so that appropriate support and guidance can be provided.

Supervision & Security

Students are supervised throughout the school day by trained staff. IASJ maintains appropriate security measures to support a safe learning environment while preserving a welcoming school atmosphere.

To protect the safety of students and staff, specific security details are not shared publicly. Additional information can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Communication & Partnership

Open and respectful communication between families and the school is essential. IASJ is committed to clear, timely communication and encourages parents to reach out with questions or concerns.
